We asked farmers across Kiambu one plain question: how are the inputs you receive working for you? 4,444 of you answered — what you grow, what you need most, and what would make the next season a better one. The survey is now closed, and we have gathered your answers into this short report.
You spoke, and it was counted. Here is what you said.
National flood early warning system
semaKenya is developing a nationwide flood early-warning system designed to help communities receive timely, localized and actionable information about flood risks before dangerous conditions develop. The system is intended to work alongside Kenya's existing meteorological and disaster-response institutions, translating authoritative information into clear alerts delivered through accessible channels. The service is currently under development, but you can join the waitlist to help us understand where demand exists across Kenya and how communities are affected by flooding; registration for live alerts will open when the system is ready.
The timing matters. The World Meteorological Organization currently says a strong El Niño (sometimes referred to in media coverage as a “super El Niño”) is developing and expected to strengthen during August–October 2026, alongside a developing positive Indian Ocean Dipole. WMO expects significant shifts in global rainfall patterns, while ICPAC forecasts wetter-than-normal conditions across parts of the Greater Horn of Africa during the October–December 2026 season, including parts of Kenya, which may increase the risk of flooding, flash floods and landslides in vulnerable areas. This is not a prediction that Kenya will experience catastrophic flooding everywhere, but it is a reason to prepare before the rains arrive.
