Finally, through its leadership, the ANC party has set aside January 23, 2022, as the day it will announce the party’s presidential candidate.
The party is set to hold a delegates’ conference later in January, where it will announce the party’s preparedness for the 2022 general elections.
Several key members of ANC decamped to the Azimio to Umoja team, claiming that the party has not been aggressive enough when it comes to selling its agenda.
The statement was made public on Tuesday by ANC party Secretary-General Simon Kamau Gikuru.
The statement read in part, “According to the provisions of Article 16.4 (b) and Article 47(2) of the Constitution of Amani National Congress Party (Amended October 2021), and thereunder, I hereby convene a special meeting of the National Delegates Congress of the Party to be held at 9:00 am on January 23, 2022, at the Bomas of Kenya, Nairobi,” read the statement.”
Bomas of Kenya is the venue for the big announcement, where ANC Party leader Musalia Mudavadi is expected to be announced as the party’s flag bearer. Kamau revealed.
The statement further stated that “The avowed purpose of the forum will be to ratify specific decisions of the Amani Council, ratify Amani Council nomination of the Party Leader, as the Party’s Presidential Candidate in the National elections scheduled to be held in August 2022 and to ratify amendments to the Amani National Congress Party Constitution.”
ANC remains a member of the One Kenya Alliance, and they have maintained that they are working towards choosing a suitable flag bearer for the coalition.
Kamau said, “ANC is very committed to the One Kenya Alliance. We are working very hard to see to it that this alliance will survive this political season.”
