Google has released a list of Kenya’s most searched songs, and interestingly, ‘Ndovu ni Kuu’ is in that list. The list gives an annual look into the year’s top trending and most searches on Google.
The list captures overall international stories to local top 10 list of trending stories across the different sectors of the entertainment industry such as Music, news, sports, lifestyle and personalities.
According to Google’s Communications and Public Affairs Manager in Kenya, Ms Sharon Machira, “Just as Search can help you explore and discover a world of information, there are many ways to explore the year through the lens of Google Search.
“Google’s 2021 Year in Search Lists compiles the moments, people, topics, events, and places that captured Kenyans’ attention during the year. Search is a useful tool to help people find answers to the biggest questions facing society,” she added.

English Premier League topped in the sports world and general trending searches. Kenyans love football, which could be why football dominated the Trends with search queries.
People searched to know how different clubs performed, league fixtures and standings. Searches cut across English Premier League, Serie A, UEFA Champions League, Europa League, and La Liga.
Uganda’s opposition leader Bobi Wine topped the Global Personalities category, followed by the 46th President of US Joe Biden.
Sports journalist Fabrizio Romano, specialising in football transfers, was the third trending personality.
Other global personalities include US Vice President Kamala Harris, Alibaba Founder Jack Ma, American poet Amanda Gorman, Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu, Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni, former President of South Africa Jacob Zuma and British model Naomi Campbell.
In the ‘how to’ category, Kenyans searched to register for NHIF via MPESA. Other queries were “how to apply for Kazi Mtaani”, “how to write an application letter”, “how to write a CV”, how to buy tokens and “how to style” braids.
Top in the ‘how to’ search queries list was “How to find true love”, while “how to check KCPE and KCSE results came second and third, respectively.
Kenyans are an exciting lot; top trending lyrics in Google has exposed Kenyans searched more of Tanzanians and Nigerian songs.
Top in the list includes Tanzanian songstress Zuchu’s hit song ‘Sukari’ lyrics came first followed by lyrics from Nigeria’s Joseph Akinwale Akinfenwa-Donus aka’ Joeboy’s hit song ‘Alcohol’.
Third, in the category was Tanzanian Bongo artist Diamond Platinumz whose ‘Naanzaje’ hit attracted the third-highest number of searches.
Other hit songs whose lyrics were sought were ‘Ndovu ni Kuu’ by Kenya’s Khaligraph Jones and Boutross Munene.
In the health category, Kenyans wanted to know more about COVID-19 Registry.
And AstraZeneca Vaccine.
